Rule... the Kitchen

It's Saturday, and that means it's Bountiful Basket day! I'm not gonna lie, Kristen and I love it! It's like Christmas every week, ...except it's a Christmas in some sick parallel dimension where all you get is fruits and vegetables. Maybe I should rethink this... Anyway, I do like fresh produce. We get something different each week and the funnest part is figuring out how to eat all of it.

It's Saturday, and that means...it's homework day. I know, lame. After getting up early this morning to get our Bountiful Basket(I think the trademark symbol goes here), I laid around the house as much as I could to make up for it, but I had to get around to getting ready for the day sometime. I did it. whoopee... So there I am, sitting at my computer, pretending to do homework, and Kristen gives me a kiss goodbye on her way to her aunt's house to make cookies, or whatever it is women do when they get together. As she left, she looked at me with a cute little grin and, with a twinkle in her eye, said, "Do your homework."

It's Saturday, and that means I go a little crazy sitting around the house alone...supposedly doing homework. I was getting kind of hungry...I looked around...ate a few saltines... that didn't quite do it for me. Looked at the cereal in the cupboard. I really didn't want cereal. I think Willy Wonka, in the movie remake, said something to the effect that breakfast cereal is made out of the shavings from a pencil sharpener. I tend to agree, especially if you've got some real food tempting you, fresh fruits and vegetables calling your name. I decided I'd use a bit of our basket today and chop up some veggies and throw them in with some eggs.

I suppose I can make a real omelet(or omelette for you fancy folks) if I really have to(I think), but, if I'm going to make myself some food...on a Saturday, it's going to be all thrown together and scrambled. This is something we all can do. I was wondering how I was going to explain this to Kristen, if I was going to explain it at all. All of the sudden...she walked in! "Uh...hi Kristen." She sniffs, then walks into the kitchen and sees the work in progress and her eyes light up. Then she has a realization. "Were you making this for yourself?" She asked. This is the time I wish I had a Twix candy bar to shove into my mouth, you know, "Need a minute?" All I'm thinking is, "No, pregnant wife, I was making this for you." It doesn't matter what you think, anything you make is for you make is for your pregnant wife. It's okay, she'll probably leave you some.

From what I can tell, she liked it. Thankfully not all of it.

That's the great thing about food, is you get to share. It's not nearly as good if you eat it all by yourself. Sometimes it's not really much of a recipe, like today, but if you're home alone on a Saturday, it's quick and easy; as many eggs as you want, some ham or bacon or whatever, some veggies, and you've got something to eat... or to share. If that's the case, and you didn't get as much as you were expecting...

Well, there's always cereal.
